So, 2025 has officially come to a close, which means my Picture of the Day project has wrapped up as well. For the past year, I committed to taking and sharing at least one photograph every single day—no mulligans, no dipping into yesterday’s leftovers, no excuses. Some days offered a bounty of possibilities; others required a bit more squinting and stubbornness. But every day demanded that I look.

Rather than letting those images drift off into the digital ether, I thought it would be fun—and maybe even a little revealing—to gather them up and revisit the year month by month. What you’ll see here is a curated set: the photos that actually earned the “Picture of the Day” designation, followed by a handful that didn’t make the final cut but still felt worthy. Call them the near-misses, the alternates, or the ones that whispered instead of shouted.

Seen together, these images feel less like a highlight reel and more like a visual diary—small moments, passing glances, odd bits of light and shadow that caught my attention as I moved through the world. Some days are strong, some are subtle, and a few are probably best described as “made it work.” That’s part of the charm.

So, let’s start at the beginning. Here are January 2025’s Pictures of the Day.

And here are the ones that I thought were good, but didn't quite make the cut as my Picture of the Day for that particular day.
