The 17th week of the year has come and gone, and The Restless Lens is back in New York City after a brief trip to Portland, Oregon and the Oregon coast.

It was a change of pace in more ways than one. There weren’t many streets to roam, so the usual rhythm of candid city shooting took a back seat. This was very much a nature trip—wide-open spaces, rugged coastline, and a lot more sky than I’m used to.

I wouldn’t exactly call myself a landscape photographer, but when you’re standing in front of the Pacific Ocean, it’s hard not to give it a shot. I came away with a handful of images that I’m pretty happy with—different from my usual work, but a nice reminder that it’s good to step outside your comfort zone every now and then.

Once I got back to New York, it was right back to familiar territory: the streets, the subways, and the steady stream of everyday moments that never seem to run dry. And of course, no week would be complete without the usual cast of characters—dogs, cats, birds and eels all making their appearances. (Eels?)

So this week’s set is a bit of a hybrid: a mix of coast and concrete, quiet landscapes and busy streets. Check 'em out.
