Back from Portland and Atlanta. Now it's just NYC, baby.

Week 18 finds me back on familiar ground.

After a stretch that took me from Portland to Atlanta, I’m back in New York, camera in hand, settling into the groove that never really leaves you. And with that comes the usual cast of characters: The streets, of course.

Pigeons being cute. Dogs with places to be (and getting there via bicycle basket). Orthodox Jews with quiet purpose on the subway. And, because this is New York, a guy on the subway very casually rolling a joint as if he were buttering a piece of toast.

No oceans, no forests, no sweeping landscapes this week. Just the city doing what it does best: offering up small, unscripted moments that somehow feel both ordinary and completely unique.

There’s a reason I keep coming back to it.

No place like New York.
