The Restless Lens Week 33 (Aug 12-18) One Last Look at Amsterdam

And just like that, my time in Amsterdam has come to an end.

This week’s Restless Lens is the final batch from my trip: canals, bicycles, cats, birds, people, signs, shadows, reflections, and the assorted oddities that always seem to find their way in front of my camera. In other words, pretty much everything I love photographing, with an unmistakably Amsterdam backdrop.
I had the city mostly to myself this past week, which meant plenty of aimless wandering with the camera—the best way, in my opinion, to photograph Amsterdam. Pick a direction, start walking (or biking, parking, and then walking), and see what presents itself.
After all these visits, I still manage to find things here I haven’t photographed before. Or perhaps I’ve photographed them a dozen times and they simply looked different that day. Different light, different people, different moment. That’s the nice thing about returning to a familiar place with a camera: the city may be the same, but the photographs never are.
So here’s one last look at Amsterdam for Week 33.
Next stop: good old New York City. I suspect there’ll be a subway photo or twelve.
